Overview
Cexplorer Metrics is a free set of dashboards that lets anyone see how the network behind ADA is used: how many wallets are active1, how wealth is spread among holders2, and which stake pools produce fewer blocks than expected3. Stake pool operators, researchers and curious holders can check these numbers in a browser instead of digging through raw blockchain records. News sites such as U.Today have quoted Cexplorer.io data when reporting Cardano transaction records4.
Cexplorer Metrics is the Analytics section of Cexplorer.io, a Cardano block explorer, which works like a search engine for transactions and addresses. The explorer first launched as adapools.org in 20195. Vellum Labs publishes the site's frontend code on GitHub, where users file bug reports and feature requests6.
Key Features
- Spot pools that are missing blocks. The Pool issues table lists stake pools that produced fewer blocks than expected, with each pool's minted and estimated blocks over windows from the latest epoch (a five-day network cycle) to the long term3.
- See how ADA is spread among holders. Cexplorer's Wealth composition view sorts wallets into size groups named after sea creatures, from Plankton (under 10 ADA) to Leviathan (over 20 million ADA), with each group's count and share of the total2.
- Follow network traffic. The Transactions tab charts how many transactions each epoch carries and lists transactions per second, including the peak rate, for several timeframes7.
- Check how steadily blocks arrive. The Health tab reports chain density, a measure of how consistently new blocks get added, for the previous epoch and for the last 10 and 30 epochs8.
- Model the treasury's future. The Treasury projection page has sliders for average fees and yearly withdrawals, then charts how Cardano's treasury (the shared fund for ecosystem work) and reserves would change over 20 years9.
What to Expect
Opening Cexplorer Metrics shows a hub of cards split into four areas: Staking, DApps, Accounts and Network10. Each card leads to a dashboard with tabs and time-range buttons. Cexplorer states that its explorer and analytics are free for everyone11.
The Accounts and Network areas hold most of the headline numbers. Top staking accounts ranks the largest stake accounts and shows which pool and which DRep (a delegated representative who votes on governance proposals) each one backs12. The Genesis addresses table lists the network's original addresses with their starting value and current balance13. The Energy consumption tab estimates Cardano's yearly power use from its count of relays (servers that pass network data between pools) and pools, and sets it against Bitcoin's mining-based design14.
For DApp users and builders, the DApp ranklist ranks smart contract scripts (programs that run on the blockchain) by users, interactions and volume per epoch. Companion tabs list individual script interactions and total value locked, meaning the funds deposited in DeFi apps15.
Viewing costs nothing, but downloading charts or exporting tables as CSV or JSON files is reserved for Cexplorer PRO, which will be unlocked by holding a Cexplorer PRO NFT once its mint goes live16. The all-time range on the average pools chart, which tracks average stake and delegators per pool, is also marked as PRO17.
