Overview

Edda Labs is an engineering studio that builds software letting one party prove something to another without handing over the data behind it¹. Think of showing a bouncer that you're over 18 without handing over your whole ID card. Teams deploying AI agents (AI software that carries out tasks on its own), trading tokenized assets (real-world items represented as blockchain tokens), or checking identities and certificates hire the studio to design these systems¹.

Edda Labs is an official Midnight ecosystem partner². Midnight is a blockchain built for privacy that runs alongside Cardano, and it is where the studio builds client prototypes, open-source starter code, and developer training. On Cardano, the team completed two Project Catalyst grants, Cardano's community funding program: one for ready-made financial contracts and one for a multilingual developer video series².

Key Features

• Private marketplaces for green-energy certificates. Karbonity, an Edda Labs prototype on Midnight's preview test network, lets buyers purchase renewable-energy certificates without the public record linking any buyer to a certificate³.
• Proof about survey data without the raw images. ZkyProof, a clickable design mockup from Midnight's Build Club program, shows how an owner of aerial survey data could prove the region, month, and image resolution without revealing coordinates, flight paths, or photos⁴.
• A sticker album that teaches privacy ideas. Midnight Album is an educational game with 120 stickers across six topics, such as zero-knowledge proofs (ways to prove a fact without showing the details). Players open packs, play card games, and trade duplicates, with no real money involved⁵.
• Practice contracts ordered from easy to hard. The open-source midnight-contracts collection holds six sample programs written in Compact, Midnight's language for smart contracts (programs that run on a blockchain). Each comes with a beginner walkthrough and tests that run without connecting to the network or a wallet⁶.
• Ready-made financial contracts on Cardano. Marlowe Enhanced, a completed Catalyst project by Edda Labs, packages pre-designed contracts in Marlowe, Cardano's language for financial agreements, with flowcharts and plain explanations so non-technical users can run them⁷.

What to Expect

Businesses start with a conversation and get a one-page summary of their problem. A first pilot usually ends with a written spec and a clickable mockup, and ecosystem grants often pay for it¹. Bigger projects run as full builds or ongoing retainers¹, priced at a fixed fee for an agreed result rather than by developer hours².

Developers can watch recorded sessions in English, Spanish, and Portuguese on the studio's YouTube channel¹. Beyond the practice contracts, the modular-starter template gives a working Midnight app with web front ends and tests to build on⁸. The studio also publishes plugins for Claude Code, an AI coding assistant, that give it Midnight documentation and code examples to work from⁹. For Cardano, a completed Catalyst grant funded weekly video tutorials that teach Cardano tools to developers coming from ordinary web and business software¹⁰.

The team runs in-person workshops too, with past sessions in Lima, Buenos Aires, Da Nang, and São Paulo². Edda Labs placed second in Midnight's ZK Identity hackathon with an auction app that checked bidders' age, jurisdiction, and certifications before they could bid¹¹. Two team members, Erick Romero and Tainá Bugs, were named to Cohort 0 of the Midnight Aliit Fellowship¹².
