Introduction

The Edinburgh Decentralization Index establishes the first comprehensive academic framework for systematically measuring blockchain decentralization across eight distinct layers. Developed through collaboration between the University of Edinburgh and Input Output Group, this research initiative provides standardized metrics for comparing decentralization across major blockchain networks including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Cardano.
