Overview
Exodus is a free wallet for holding crypto across dozens of different blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano (ADA), Solana, XRP, and many more, from a single app. It is designed to be one of the most beginner-friendly ways into self-custody. The app comes in three flavours: a desktop wallet for Mac, Windows, and Linux; a phone app for iPhone and Android; and a browser add-on for Cardano apps and other Web3 services1.
Exodus is built by Exodus Movement, Inc., a publicly listed company founded in 2015. You hold the recovery phrase, which means only you can move your funds. There is no Exodus account, no email signup, and no ID verification.
Key Features
- Hold many cryptocurrencies in one place. Send and receive Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cardano ADA, XRP, Polkadot, and many others from the same app1.
- A dedicated Cardano experience. Exodus has a Cardano-specific wallet section for sending, receiving, and connecting to Cardano apps2.
- Buy crypto with a card. A built-in payment option (called XO Pay) lets you buy ADA, Bitcoin, and other supported coins with a credit or debit card. No exchange account needed.
- Swap one coin for another inside the wallet. A built-in trading tool lets you swap between supported cryptocurrencies without leaving the app.
- Pair with a hardware wallet. Exodus works with Trezor and Ledger hardware wallets, so you can hold larger balances on a small offline device while still using Exodus's clean interface for everyday actions.
What to Expect
Exodus is one of the easier first wallets to use, especially if you're coming from a centralised exchange like Coinbase or Binance and want to hold your own coins for the first time. The interface is friendly: portfolio charts, a clear asset list, and a one-screen swap flow. The desktop, mobile, and browser-extension versions all share the same look and feel, so switching between them feels natural.
Cardano sits alongside many other blockchains rather than being the main event. If you mostly hold ADA and want deeper Cardano features (staking your ADA inside the wallet, on-chain governance voting, or rich connections to Cardano DeFi apps), you may want to compare Exodus with Cardano-native wallets like Lace, Eternl, or Yoroi, or use Exodus alongside one.
With any self-custody wallet, the recovery phrase is everything. Exodus cannot recover it for you if you lose it, and there's no "forgot password" path. Write it down offline and store it safely.
