Overview
GeroWallet is a free Cardano browser wallet that pairs the usual wallet features (holding ADA, staking, signing into Cardano apps) with something most wallets don't offer: a connected Mastercard debit card. It runs as a browser add-on for Chrome and Brave, and its pitch is straightforward: hold your crypto in self-custody, and spend it in the real world without going through an exchange1.
GeroWallet is built by A.D. Labs. You hold the recovery phrase, so only you can move your funds. The underlying code is open and public on GitHub2.
Key Features
- The Gero Card, a real debit card. A Mastercard-branded card issued through a licensed European payments company. ADA stays in your self-custody wallet until you top up the card, at which point it converts to euros and works anywhere Mastercard does, including cash withdrawals at ATMs3.
- Cashback in ADA when you shop. Spending at over 750 retailers earns ADA back through a partnership called Bring, paid straight into your wallet1.
- Trade tokens at the best price. A built-in swap tool checks several Cardano DEXs at once and routes your trade through whichever offers the best price.
- Stake ADA and earn rewards. Pick a Cardano stake pool from a built-in list and earn rewards every few days. Your ADA stays in your wallet the whole time.
- A built-in scam shield. A security tool called Cardano Shield watches for fake websites and dodgy approval requests before you click. It was funded by Cardano's grant programme, Project Catalyst1.
- Pair with a hardware wallet. Connect a Ledger, Trezor, or Keystone device for offline-grade security on larger balances. Everyday access can use fingerprint or face unlock on supported devices.
What to Expect
Day-to-day, GeroWallet covers the standard browser-wallet workflow: send and receive ADA, manage Cardano tokens and NFTs, sign into apps, delegate to a stake pool, and take part in Cardano governance voting. The wallet also handles two other partner chains: Apex Fusion is live, and a Midnight Network wallet has been announced.
Where GeroWallet differs from most Cardano wallets is the spending side. Your ADA stays in your wallet (you hold the keys) until you decide to top up the Gero Card, at which point the payment partner Satchel.eu holds your euro balance for spending. Cashback at supported retailers lands automatically back in your wallet as ADA. Holders of the project's own token (GERO) get tiered discounts on card fees, and the same token is used for voting in the Gero DAO, where the community decides on changes to the project.
GeroWallet also offers trading-style features for advanced users, including perpetual futures through a separate Cardano app called Strike Finance, directly inside the wallet1.
