M2Tec

Overview

M2tec is a Dutch design and engineering studio that helps companies turn a technical idea into a working product, from the first prototype to a version a factory can make, according to its Dutch-language website¹. Its prototyping work combines mechanics, electronics, and embedded software (the code that runs inside a device) under one roof¹.

Industrial designer Maarten Menheere runs M2tec from Barendrecht, Netherlands². On Cardano, the studio builds payment and onboarding hardware that works with GameChanger Wallet, a browser-based wallet. GameChanger lists M2tec as a partner that builds point-of-sale systems for both cash and crypto³. Several of these projects received grants from Project Catalyst, Cardano's community-voted funding program^4,5.

• Crypto checkout devices for shops. M2tec's Paypads are store payment devices that accept ADA, other Cardano tokens, and loyalty tokens, and connect to Odoo, a business management and sales software⁶.
• A kiosk that hands newcomers a wallet. The Cardano Totem is a countertop device that prints a paper wallet, a slip storing wallet details as QR codes, and shows the GameChanger wallet on its screen⁵.
• Cash in, ADA wallet out. An earlier M2tec terminal design lets a shop customer hand over paper money and receive an ADA wallet holding that amount, aimed at people without a bank account or phone⁴.
• Payment requests by link or QR code. M2Tec Payments is a web page where a seller enters an amount and a receiving wallet, then shares a payment link or QR code the buyer opens in GameChanger⁷.
• Your own Cardano data server. Dandelion Lite, built by the GameChanger and M2tec teams, runs a Cardano node (the software that keeps a copy of the blockchain) plus data services for apps, using setup scripts and database snapshots that cut the time a new server needs to catch up with the network⁸.

What to Expect

Businesses looking for a product development partner will find a short Dutch-language website with three services: prototyping, product development, and technical drawings. It has a contact page but does not describe the studio's Cardano work¹.

Cardano developers will find that side on GitHub. The M2tec account holds a payment add-on for Odoo, the code behind M2Tec Payments⁶, and scripts for running Cardano's data services on your own hardware². GameChanger's documentation lists the rest of the toolkit, including the Paypads, the Totem, and a gift wallet tool that bundles paper wallets for printing⁶. Menheere also led a Catalyst-funded course on building apps with GameChanger, published on Andamio and Work.Courses⁹.

To see the hardware at work, GameChanger published a coding session in which Menheere upgrades his payment devices and walks through building payment links and QR codes¹⁰.
