Overview
The Midnight Foundation is the organization that grows the Midnight network and represents it to the outside world. It brings in banks1, payment firms2, and cloud providers3 as partners, runs community programmes45, and supports developers building on the network6. Its stated long-term job is handing control to the people who hold Midnight's token7.
Midnight is a privacy-focused partner chain of Cardano, and the NIGHT token behind it was minted on Cardano8. Three organizations sit behind the project: research started at Input Output Group, core engineering belongs to Shielded Technologies, and the Midnight Foundation takes care of growth, partnerships, and the route to community governance9. That division explains why the Foundation carries no code or documentation of its own.
Key Features
- Established companies helping run the network. The Midnight Foundation assembled the founding group of node operators, the firms that keep the network producing blocks, including Worldpay, Bullish, MoneyGram, eToro, and Google Cloud2.
- A bank putting customer deposits on-chain. Monument, a Bank of England-regulated bank, has announced plans with the Foundation to represent retail savings deposits on Midnight, keeping the UK deposit-protection guarantee that applies to ordinary accounts1.
- A route to cloud resources for builders. Under the Foundation's collaboration with Google Cloud, teams building on Midnight can apply for startup cloud credits, while Google Cloud itself runs a validator and supplies security monitoring for the network3.
- Research into proving a person is human, not a bot. The Foundation partnered with Creditcoin on a way to show a real person is behind an account using their track record on a blockchain, without exposing their financial details10.
- Community events and a published annual survey. The Foundation hosts the Midnight Summit, a gathering for builders and privacy advocates, and runs a yearly survey whose results it publishes, including where in the world its community is growing45.
What to Expect
The Foundation's own site is short rather than technical. You get a homepage setting out what the organization stands for, and a news feed carrying press releases, partnership announcements, event write-ups, and network updates11. That is essentially the whole site.
If you arrived looking for documentation, source code, a developer chat, or the token itself, none of it lives here. Those belong to the Midnight network and sit on its own separate site, which the Foundation points to throughout.
Treat this as the organizational face of the project. It is the place to find out which institutions Midnight works with, what the project has committed to in public, and where it says it is heading, including a plan to move protocol upgrades and treasury decisions to a vote among token holders712. If you want to read the technical documentation, compare privacy tools, or start building, the network's own site is the better starting point.
