Overview

Pulse is a yield-trading protocol on Cardano that lets you sell your future yield for cash today, lock in a fixed return, or trade on where yields are heading. It works by splitting an asset that already earns yield into two separate, tradable pieces: one that holds the deposit value and one that carries the future earnings1. It is aimed at Cardano DeFi users who want more control over the income their assets generate, rather than simply holding and waiting.

The design follows the model that Pendle introduced on Ethereum, adapted for Cardano's accounting style. Pulse does not create yield itself; it restructures yield that already comes from another source, such as lending interest or trading fees, into something you can buy and sell2. The project is built by Christian Schmitz, who is described in Pulse's documentation as a smart-contract auditor in the Cardano ecosystem1.

Key Features

  • Sell future yield upfront. Pulse splits a yield-bearing asset into a Principal Token that holds the deposit value and a Yield Token that carries the earnings, so you can sell tomorrow's income for cash today1.
  • Lock in a fixed return. The Principal Token trades below its redemption value and pays back the full amount when the term ends, turning a variable yield into a predictable, bond-like return3.
  • Trade on yield movements. Buying the Yield Token is a way to bet that yields will rise, since it captures all the earnings an asset produces until its maturity date3.
  • Open-source Cardano contracts. The protocol's smart contracts are published on GitHub under an open license and written entirely in Aiken, Cardano's contract language, so anyone can inspect the code4.
  • Earn fees as a liquidity provider. Users can supply assets to Pulse's yield markets and collect a share of the fees paid by people trading principal and yield tokens3.

What to Expect

A visitor arriving at Pulse finds a web app for trading yield markets, backed by a detailed documentation site that walks through the mechanics step by step1. The first supported asset is strikeADA, which is ADA supplied to Strike Finance, a Cardano lending protocol; the team states that many more yield-bearing assets are planned across other lending platforms and exchanges3.

The documentation is unusually thorough for an early project, including a plain-English explainer, worked examples that show exactly how much a user would receive when selling yield, and a public testnet guide for people who want to try the mechanics before committing real funds2. Pulse names No Witness Labs as its audit partner and says a public bug bounty program is planned3. Anyone evaluating the protocol can read the full contract code on GitHub and follow development activity directly4.
