Overview
Lace is a crypto wallet that lets you store and send digital assets, stake ADA for rewards, and connect to apps from one place1. It comes in two forms: a browser extension for Chrome, Brave, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox, and Lace Mobile, an app for iPhone and Android phones2,3. The same wallet can be restored on both, so people can move between a desktop browser and their phone3.
Lace is built by Input Output, the engineering company behind Cardano and Midnight2. Cardano is the home chain, where Lace handles ADA, tokens, NFTs, staking, and apps. Bitcoin support lets users store, send, and receive BTC next to their ADA4. Midnight, a partner chain built for privacy, works in the browser extension, while Lace Mobile covers Cardano and Bitcoin5.
Key Features
- A printable backup instead of a word list. Lace's paper wallet saves a PDF with two QR codes: one shows your public address, and one holds your recovery phrase locked with PGP, a widely used encryption system3.
- Private assets next to public ones. The Lace browser extension connects to Midnight, so you can manage Midnight assets, generate DUST, and explore Midnight apps6. DUST is the resource Midnight uses to pay transaction fees, and spending it does not reveal wallet addresses or amounts3.
- Keys kept on a separate device. Lace pairs with hardware wallets, small devices that keep your keys offline, including Ledger, Trezor, Keystone, and SeedSigner models3.
- Staking and apps in one wallet. Users can pick a Cardano stake pool to delegate ADA for rewards, and the built-in connector links the wallet to decentralized exchanges, DeFi services, and NFT marketplaces1.
- One fee for many payments. The bundle feature sends several kinds of assets to several people in a single transaction, with just one transaction fee1.
What to Expect
The browser extension installs from the Chrome Web Store, which also serves Brave, Microsoft Edge Add-ons or Firefox Add-ons. Lace Mobile is on Google Play and the App Store. When you create a wallet, Lace asks whether you want a standard recovery phrase or a paper wallet3. Existing users can make a paper wallet later from the settings menu, and restoring one means holding the printed QR code up to your device's camera7.
On the phone, Lace Mobile lets you send and receive assets, stake, connect to apps, swap tokens, and buy crypto where your region allows5. Lace also has an NFT gallery, an address book for people you pay often, and a way to buy ADA with regular money through Banxa, a third-party payment service1.
Lace is a non-custodial wallet, which means you, not Lace, hold the keys to your funds6. FYEO, a security firm, tested the browser extension against attacks such as phishing sites and key theft, and Lace publishes the report8. The wallet's code is open-source on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license, written mainly in TypeScript9.
