Overview
PRAGMA is a not-for-profit association that gives open-source software projects a permanent organizational home. A project that joins gets help with trademarks, contracts and legal paperwork, plus a written set of rules for how decisions get made, while the people who write the code keep control of the code1. PRAGMA deliberately does not fund the projects it takes in1.
Registered in Zug as a Swiss association, PRAGMA adopted its statutes at a founding assembly in April 202423. Its founding members are five organizations working on Cardano: the Cardano Foundation, Blink Labs, dcSpark, Sundae Labs and TxPipe, each with one delegate in the general assembly that sets PRAGMA's direction4. It hosts Aiken, a language for writing Cardano smart contracts, the small programs that run on a blockchain, and Amaru, a second option for the node software that keeps a copy of Cardano's records and checks new transactions5.

- Funding stays with the projects. PRAGMA does not receive or deploy funding for the projects it hosts1, and its statutes bar it from accepting donations earmarked for them2.
- A published route in for new projects. The project committee opens applications twice a year8, and a candidate follows a set path: apply, get reviewed for fit and legal readiness, incubate with an assigned guide, graduate after quarterly reviews, then join with its own maintainer committee5.
What to Expect
PRAGMA's website is small, and it reads like an organization's paperwork rather than a product site. You get a page setting out what the association will and will not do1, a page naming its member organizations and what each of them builds4, an FAQ8, and the full statutes2.
If you maintain an open-source Cardano project, this is the practical entry point. The projects page explains the intake path and links out to the decision record that governs it5. Everyone else will get more out of the quarterly reports and the decision records, which are where the association's day-to-day operation is visible: one report covers a project pushing a planned release into the following quarter and returning unspent ADA to the Cardano treasury7.
There is no token here, no app, and nothing to connect a wallet to. PRAGMA describes itself as independent of and complementary to Intersect: Intersect handles governance for the Cardano ecosystem as a whole, while PRAGMA handles the governance of individual open-source projects8.
