Overview

USDCx is a dollar-backed stablecoin on Cardano that lets you bring US dollar value onto the network and move it back out again. You send USDC, the widely used dollar coin from Circle, through the USDCx bridge and receive an equal amount of USDCx in your Cardano wallet. It is built for anyone who wants a stable, dollar-priced asset to trade, lend, or spend across Cardano apps.

USDCx is a Cardano native asset, which means it works at the ledger level like ADA itself rather than running through a separate smart contract1. Behind the scenes, every USDCx is backed one-for-one by real USDC locked in Circle's xReserve, a non-custodial system that issues an on-chain record each time coins are deposited and minted2. The token was built by Input Output Global with Anastasia Labs, in collaboration with Circle.

Key Features

  • Real dollar backing. Every USDCx is matched one-for-one by USDC held in Circle's xReserve, so it is not an algorithmic or synthetic token that depends on market conditions to hold its value2.
  • Works everywhere on Cardano from the start. Because USDCx is a native asset rather than a smart-contract token, it carries lower fees and slots straight into Cardano wallets and apps without extra wrapping1.
  • Move money in from other chains. The bridge accepts USDC from Ethereum and connects to Circle's wider transfer network, which spans many chains, so you can route dollars to Cardano from where you already hold them2.
  • Swap as you arrive. A DEX Direct option lets you convert part of an incoming deposit into ADA or another Cardano token in the same step, through a built-in exchange connection1.
  • No custody by the builder. Input Output Global never holds your keys or your funds and cannot move, freeze, or reverse a transfer1.

What to Expect

Getting USDCx starts at the bridge app, where you connect a wallet that holds USDC on Ethereum and a Cardano wallet such as Lace, Eternl, Yoroi, Typhon, Gerowallet, or NuFi3. You enter an amount, confirm, and the bridge locks your USDC and mints the matching USDCx into your Cardano wallet. Minting usually lands in about fifteen to twenty-five minutes3.

Going the other way, you burn USDCx to release your USDC back out to another chain. That direction is slower by design, taking roughly two hours, because the system waits for a large number of Cardano block confirmations to protect against the rare case of the chain reorganizing3. The process runs in the background, so you can close the page and check back later. Once you hold USDCx, you can use it as a stable trading pair on Cardano exchanges, as collateral for lending, or as a dollar-denominated way to pay and settle4.
