Introduction

Overview

Yoroi is a self-custodial light wallet for the Cardano ecosystem, developed by EMURGO Fintech as the first light wallet to support Cardano ADA. It provides a streamlined interface for managing ADA and Cardano native assets without requiring users to download the full blockchain. Yoroi is available as both a mobile app and browser extension, serving as a gateway to the broader Cardano network.

Built in the open under an Apache 2.0 and MIT license, Yoroi prioritizes transparency and security1. The wallet encrypts private keys locally and never shares them with external servers or third-party providers. Its lightweight architecture connects to trusted backend servers rather than syncing the full Cardano ledger, allowing near-instant access to funds and network features. EMURGO, one of the three founding entities of the Cardano blockchain alongside IOG and the Cardano Foundation, maintains the project through active development on GitHub2.

Key Features
  • NFT Gallery. Display, manage, and store Cardano native NFTs directly within the wallet interface3.
  • In-Wallet Swaps. Exchange Cardano native assets through an integrated swap feature powered by the MuesliSwap DEX aggregator.
  • Native ADA Staking. Delegate ADA to stake pools and earn protocol rewards while maintaining full custody of funds.
  • DApp Connector. Interact with Cardano DApps and protocols through a standardized wallet connector interface.
  • Governance Voting. Participate in Cardano on-chain governance decisions directly from the wallet4.
What to Expect

Setting up Yoroi takes minutes. Users create a new wallet or restore an existing one using a recovery phrase, then gain immediate access to their ADA balance and transaction history. The wallet offers a clean, minimal interface organized around core actions: sending and receiving ADA, staking, swapping, and browsing NFTs. New users can fund their wallet through a fiat on-ramp provided by Banxa, removing the need to first acquire ADA on a centralized exchange.

The staking experience is integrated into the main wallet view, with stake pool browsing and delegation handled in a few taps. Delegated ADA remains fully accessible and can be spent or re-delegated at any time without lock-up periods. Swap functionality routes through the MuesliSwap aggregator to find competitive exchange rates across Cardano DEXs. For users who prefer hardware-based security, Yoroi supports both Ledger and Trezor hardware wallets for transaction signing, keeping private keys on the physical device while using the Yoroi interface for day-to-day management.

The DApp connector enables Yoroi to serve as a signing interface for the broader Cardano application layer. Users authorize transactions from third-party DApps through a familiar approval flow, similar to browser wallet connectors on other networks.

The wallet is available in English and Japanese. A dedicated help center at help.yoroi-wallet.com covers setup guides, staking instructions, hardware wallet connectivity, DApp connector usage, and troubleshooting. Community support channels include Discord and a YouTube channel with tutorial content.
